Posh complete the signing of Accrington Stanley midfielder Ben Woods for an undisclosed fee.
Peterborough United have strengthened their midfield options ahead of the transfer deadline later this month with the acquisition of Accrington Stanley midfielder Ben Woods for an undisclosed fee.
The former Manchester United youngster has penned a four-year deal at the Bespoke Builds Training Ground after a stellar campaign in Sky Bet League Two, which saw him win three End of Season awards and a share of a fourth.
Manager Darren Ferguson is delighted to add to his midfield options, although the 22-year-old is currently recovering from a hand injury.
"Ben is a player we have been after for quite a while and it has taken us a little longer to get it over the line, but I am delighted it is completed now.
"He was one of the best midfielders in the league last season, won multiple awards at the end of the campaign and is another who can play in a variety of different positions.
"He has been playing at left-wing back for Accrington for whatever reason, but he is a midfield player. He is left-footed, strong, scored nine goals last season so we feel he can add goals and assists.
"He is a good all-round midfield player, will play anywhere you ask him too. He has a great attitude and I love his mentality, definitely ready for the step-up.
"We have brought in Matty, Klaidi and now Ben to add to Donay, Archie and Brandon, so we have now six midfield players and this is where I feel the difference is going to be this season.
"We will have a lot stronger squad this season. Last season, Archie for example played so many games. We want to build a stronger squad and this signing is important, because he really wanted to come and I think he will be a big signing for us. The important thing is that he is left-footed and that gives us the balance. He has a lot of potential.
"At the moment, he has just undergone a small operation on his hand, that is why he has missed a few games including the one against us. It will keep him out a period of time, around three weeks, which isn't ideal, but it is a long season and we have to think about not letting that alter our thinking that he is going to be out, he has had the operation, it went well, so it won't take too long and he has played in all the games in pre-season and on the opening day," Ferguson said.
Woods is looking forward to getting started when he is fully fit. "I wanted to come to the club anyway, but as soon as I spoke to the manager, that cemented it in seconds.
"I feel it is the right time to make the move and the right club to make the move too. I enjoyed my time at Accrington and thank everyone there for giving me the opportunity, but I feel I am ready for the next step-up in my career.
"I would describe myself as a box-to-box player, but I can play anywhere in midfield. The positive aspect of currently being unavailable is that I can get myself settled, house-wise, get to know the players and the city and then when I am ready, I can focus fully on the football," Woods said.
