Peterborough United Women made it 16 unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Midlands on Sunday with a 7-2 victory over Worcester City Women at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Peterborough United Women put on a performance to be proud of when they beat Worcester City 7-2 at the Weston Homes Stadium on International Women’s Day.

Coincidentally, it was looking like we would beat our visitors by the same scoreline as our meeting back in September until the final minute, and again Keir Perkins was on the scoresheet twice this time around.

Niamh Connor (2), Kayleigh Hines (2) and Jess Rousseau also got themselves on the scoresheet as we ran out comfortable winners in PE2.

It was a performance of attacking superlatives for Jake Poole’s team, who wasted no time, as in the second minute, Hayley James’ shot was flicked in by captain PERKINS.

A crowd of over 1,700 supporters were definitely getting their money's worth when ROUSSEAU made it two on 16 minutes. An unstoppable strike from our number seven looped over Jodie Whiteman in the City goal.

Goals were aplenty, and showed no sign of stopping when CONNOR’s header was directed downwards and into the back of the net.

But the away side provided an untimely response as Maia Clark took full advantage of a defensive error and rounded Neive Corry.

Posh stuck to the task however, and soon added a fourth when CONNOR combined with Lauren Wilshaw for the second time. Our number three’s header was low and hard, despite the City keeper’s best efforts to get a touch on the ball.

Rousseau and James both had efforts matched by Whiteman, before HINES added to the act with a simple header into the bottom corner.

Credit must go to Wilshaw, whose deliveries proved unmatched all game.

It was Rousseau who made the early inroads after the break, but our visitors reduced the gap to three on 52 minutes when Annie SIME’s cross went all the way in.

Complacency started to slip in a little bit, as Corry was called upon once more to keep out the City forward.

Again, we hit the visitors from a set-piece when HINES added goal number six, before Niamh Reynolds came close to increasing our advantage minutes later.

Poole turned to the bench to shore up the game, and instead it almost came to our favour at the attacking end as Meg Lawlor had a couple of chances late on.

PERKINS floored our visitors with a late goal when she picked up the scraps and smashed home from inside the six-yard box.

Posh: Corry, Connor (sub Osker 59min), Hines (sub Mears 79min), Driscoll-King, Rousseau (sub Kirk 67min), Brown (sub Stanford 67min), Perkins, Reynolds (sub Lawlor 79min), Pitt, Wilshaw, James. Unused subs: Sharpe, Rai.
