A look at the numbers behind a memorable start to the season for Peterborough United’s Women's squad.
Peterborough United Women are well on their way to making up for last season’s shortfall, currently at the top of the FA Women’s National League Midlands.
By any means, it has been an incredible start to the season for our women, who yesterday moved beyond leaders Boldmere St Michaels, with two games in hand.
Jake Poole’s side are the only team in this division who are still unbeaten (14), with 13 wins and the sole draw since the season started back in August.
So far, we have completed the double over Notts County, Lincoln United, Sutton Coldfield and now Northampton Town, and have the chance to do many more in the next few weeks.
November’s draw with Barnsley is the only blot in an otherwise flawless start to the season; even then, a point on the board away from home is one in the right direction.
While it’s still very early days to be thinking about the title in the grand scheme of things, Poole’s side will definitely be full of confidence heading into the final few months.
Here we will take a look at the numbers behind our start to the FA Women’s National League Midlands…
GOALS SCORED
Our 54 goals so far is the most of anyone in our division, with Boldmere next in line with 44. Four came in our first game against Notts County, before an 8-0 win over Lincoln United set the way on our return to the city.
Of course, Jess Rousseau has scored 13 of those and leads our charts since her arrival from Leeds United in all competitions. But the credit must be shared across our whole squad, who have each contributed to our fabulous goalscoring form.
Our exciting brand of attacking, expressive football has taken the league by storm. Lauren Wilshaw has helped massively with that and currently leads the way for assists with 9 assists in all competitions.
GOALS CONCEDED
No team comes close to our defensive discipline this season. Neive Corry is on her way to the Golden Glove, with nine clean sheets in just 14 games (8GC).
Our record at home goes one step further, with only the one goal conceded at PIMS Park this season.
That places us in the lead overall, with Sheffield FC closest with two at home and 12 overall.
HOME COMFORTS
As expected, our home form makes it a very difficult place for teams to come to, as Northampton learned on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 defeat on their travels.
Yesterday’s victory marked our eighth in a row at PIMS Park this season – no other team has picked up maximum points at home in our division.
Only three teams across the whole FAWNL have had the same achievement (Burnley, Moneyfields and Swindon Town).
No one comes remotely close to our goal difference at home (25), with Leafield Athletic in second, 13 behind.
We average 3.25 Goals Scored per match at home, while we sit at an incredible 0.13 for Goals Conceded.
