Peterborough United Under 18s produced an outstanding second-half performance to secure a 5–2 victory away at QPR Under 18s.
After trailing at the break, the Posh responded in emphatic fashion, scoring four goals in the second half to turn the game around and claim all three points.
QPR took an early lead, but the Posh responded well. On 20 minutes, MLITYALWA finished powerfully inside the box after being picked out by Joseph to restore parity and settle the visitors into the contest. Dagne then looked lively on the flank, producing a number of threatening dribbles, although the Posh were unable to add a second before the interval.
The hosts regained the lead on 37 minutes, and the Posh faced a challenging end to the first half, including a series of cautions while attempting to disrupt counter-attacks. As a result, the visitors went into the break trailing 2–1. A change at half-time saw Norville introduced, and the Posh emerged with greater attacking intent. Fitzpatrick came close on 58 minutes, his delivery striking the crossbar, as momentum began to shift in favour of the visitors.
The equaliser arrived on 64 minutes when MLITYALWA showed composure inside the area to finish and register his second of the afternoon. Just over ten minutes later, the Posh completed the turnaround. JOSEPH made an excellent underlapping run to meet Mlityalwa’s pass before finishing confidently to put his side in front.
The visitors continued to press and were rewarded again on 82 minutes. NORVILLE capitalised on a misplaced pass from the goalkeeper and calmly extended the lead. The result was effectively secured on 87 minutes, as CROZIER latched onto a lofted pass and delicately lifted his finish over the goalkeeper.
After the match, head coach Jimmy highlighted the contrast between the two halves and praised the players’ response. “We didn’t reach the level we expected in the first half, but the reaction after the break was very impressive. We made a few adjustments at half-time and the players executed them well. Learning how to respond to setbacks within games is a key part of their development.”
This result represents more than just three points. The Posh demonstrated resilience, adaptability and control in the second half, underlining the progress being made within the group. Attention now turns to building on this performance and maintaining consistency in the fixtures ahead.
