Posh U21s back in action on Friday afternoon against Rovers.

Peterborough United U21s are set to conclude their Premier League Cup campaign on Friday afternoon (4pm) as they face Blackburn Rovers U21s at the Lancashire FA County Ground in the final game of the group stage.

The fixture was scheduled to be played on Wednesday 18th January, but was postponed due to a frozen pitch. Posh U21s were knocked out of the competition last month after a 2-0 defeat to group leaders Brentford B, while the Rovers have secured their spot in the next round after cementing their spot in second-place.

Tomorrow’s trip to Lancashire will be the under 21s first fixture since the New Year following poor weather saw a number of postponements throughout January and Professional Development Lead Coach, Ryan Semple, wants to use the game as an opportunity to build momentum ahead of their return to the league campaign.

Semple said: “It’s much-needed game time for players as we haven’t played for over four weeks now. It’s an opportunity to get minutes and work on things, which we had a lot of time to do on the training ground, but it will be a tough test against a good opposition, who are a category one academy.”

“Everyone is just itching to get back out there now, including players and coaches as you work hard in training and want to showcase it in the game, which we haven’t been able to in the last few weeks, but from tomorrow onwards, we should have a good run of games against all different type of oppositions. So, hopefully, we can start well tomorrow and build from there.”

The game gets underway at 4pm and updates will be available on the club’s official Twitter account.
