EACH visit

Posh defensive duo David Okagbue and Tom O’Connor took time out from their busy festive schedule to meet children and families being supported by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The first-team duo met children receiving care as well as siblings and parents during Monday’s trip to Milton. The popular pair were joined by Posh mascot Peter Burrow, delivering presents, signing autographs and posing for pictures. They also took part in a colouring activity organised by the hospice wellbeing team.

Defender O’Connor said: “Community events like this are fun to be part of and an important part of our job, as professional footballers. It puts things in perspective, and we enjoyed the opportunity to meet the children and families, as well as some of the team at Milton.

“They do an incredible job and it’s an inspiring place to spend time. If we can bring a bit of joy and put smiles on faces, then it’s an absolute honour and both of us are happy to support such an amazing charity.”

Among the families to attend was that of nine-year-old Lucie Simpson, who has a brain tumour and hydrocephalus. Mum Phillipa said: “Milton has been part of our lives for nine years, since Lucie was a baby, so we’re extremely grateful to EACH.

“It’s become a huge part of our lives and days like this mean a lot to us, as a family. It was great meeting the players and the support we receive at the hospice makes such a difference – not just to Lucie but also to us, as parents, because her short breaks allow us to recharge our batteries and do things with our other children, and her siblings, Noah and Esther.”

The visit was part of Posh’s growing relationship with EACH, which included a memorable sibling day in November. Nine children attended, who are either bereaved or have a brother or sister receiving care at Milton.

The day included a stadium tour, seeing inside the home dressing room, sitting in the dugouts and meeting four players before watching the team secure a 5-0 victory again AFC Wimbledon.

EACH Senior Corporate Fundraiser Sam Woo said: “We’re incredibly grateful to David, Tom and everyone at Peterborough United. Giving us their time and showing such commitment makes a real difference, and it was clear how much the children and families enjoyed meeting the players.

“It was an amazing experience for them, and we’re so thankful to have developed this relationship with Posh. We’re proud to be supported by a club that truly cares about its community and look forward to working together in 2026.”
