Soccer Sight

Calling all Posh fans - and visiting away supporters - who are blind and vision impaired.

Peterborough United offers a free audio descriptive service for blind and vision impaired spectators at every home league and cup match.

Listeners can sit with family and friends anywhere in the Weston Homes Stadium and enjoy the match day experience thanks to Soccer Sight.

The service, delivered by volunteer commentators Ashley Martin, Mark Dowling, Matt Melough and George Brooks, enables blind and vision impaired fans to experience the action like all others supporters.

Soccer Sight’s commentary position is at the top of the main stand at the Weston Homes Stadium and the microphone picks up all the match day sounds.

To listen to Soccer Sight, blind and vision impaired fans can collect a headset and receiver from the Posh ticket office prior to entering the stadium. Whether sitting behind one of the goals or in the main stand or family stand, the audio descriptive trained commentators ensure listeners hear every goal, near-miss, save and tackle and know exactly where the ball is on the pitch.

The battery-powered receivers are similar in size to a mobile phone and either fit into a pocket or can be clipped on to a jacket. At the end of a match listeners are asked to return the headset and receiver to the ticket office.

Many Premier League, English Football League and non-league teams offer an audio descriptive service to fans and Soccer Sight was first introduced at Posh in the 2008/9 season.

Peterborough United achieved the EFL Family Excellence Gold Award for the 2024/25 season, recognising their exceptional family-friendly matchday experience. Furthermore, the club also holds a ‘United and Inclusive’ ethos and has initiated efforts such as an LGBTQ+ Supporters Group to foster greater diversity and inclusion, indicating commitment to an inclusive environment for all fans.

Building on that focus, Posh believe that Soccer Sight can play a key role in enabling more blind and vision impaired supporters to enjoy the whole match-day experience.

Ashley Martin, who has been delivering audio descriptive commentary since Soccer Sight was launched at Posh, said: “Listeners tell us that the commentary brings the action alive for them. We know that there are many more blind and vision impaired supporters who would benefit from the service and Peterborough United is determined to attract them.”
