Peterborough United Women recorded their second win in two, after Jess Rousseau and Edyn Osker found the back of the net in a 2-1 win over Cambridge United.

Posh continued their excellent pre-season campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over their local rivals at Swavesey Village College on Thursday evening.

Both sides fared well in the early moments, but it was Sophie Harris who would be called into action first, tipping an effort out for a corner with the resulting header from the set-piece going wide.

Rousseau looked to continue her momentum, but curled a shot over the top before moments later, the goal arrived.

Lauren Wilshaw carried the ball forward, picking out former Leeds attacker ROUSSEAU who tapped home for her second goal in as many games.

Kayleigh Hines looked to double the lead, stepping up to a dead ball in a threatening position, but the effort went over the bar.

The U’s attacks continued to come in waves, and this time Jade Bell looked to step up to the mark, but again it was Harris who saved well.

Both sides continued to trade chances, but the Posh backline did well to cut out any advances, with Hines coming close at the attacking end of the field.

But it was Cambridge who would pull level. The U’s threatened twice, first working the ball well down the left, where a header from close range was off the mark, before sending the teams into the break on equal footing with a simple finish.

The hosts continued how they left off, hitting the frame of the goal in the opening minutes, before Reynolds broke quickly at the other end, setting up Wilshaw, who couldn’t keep her strike down.

OSKER then put Posh back in front, finding space to move forward before picking out the top corner from around 25 yards.

Posh continued to step onto their opponents – remaining equally stoic in defence – as Courtney Clarke sent an effort wide.

Renai Bennett showed promise as the game closed out, wearing her opponents down in the final third, but her low strike was saved comfortably.

The U’s looked for a late leveller, but the Posh defence held out well to secure a second win in two.
