Posh Women midfielder Kayleigh Hines has announced she will retire from the game following the final game of the season.
Peterborough United Women's midfielder Kayleigh Hines will retire from the game following Sunday's final FAWNL Division One Midlands game of the season against Stourbridge at PIMS Park.
Hines, who joined Posh last season from Loughborough Lightening, has played a major role in the club securing promotion to Tier 3 this season and has been an extremely popular player within the dressing room.
Hines, who represented Arsenal at Academy level, before a spell in America with Millburn Magic (New Jersey) and spells at Oxford United, Reading and Loughborough Lightening, skippered the side to the win at Sheffield.
"It is hard to know where to begin as I prepare for the final competitive game of my career - a sport that has given me so much over the past 25 years. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of such a special community and I am grateful for everything football has given me, far beyond the on-pitch successes along the way.
"I have had the privilege of playing for fantastic clubs, living out my dream professionally and most importantly, meeting people who I truly couldn't imagine life without now. All of that is because of this incredible game.
"This decision is so bittersweet. The past 18 months at Posh have been nothing short of amazing, and what we have achieved together this season is truly remarkable. The ambition and vision first drew me here, but I could never have imagined the impact this place and this group of people would have on me.
"Retirement is something I have dreaded for some time now, but because of this experience, I have never felt more at peace with it. To my team-mates, the staff and our fans, thank you for welcoming me into your football family. You have given me lifelong memories and the most complete experience I could have hoped for at such a special club. My football heart is full."
Manager Jake Poole said; "The respect Kayleigh has earned not only from everyone at the club but the entire women's football pyramid is a testament to the levels she has consistently shown throughout her career.
"Signing her 18 months ago was a big step in the direction we wanted to go as a club and she's delivered in every aspect. Off the pitch, she is an outstanding person and leader and we wish her nothing but the best in her well-earned retirement."
Everyone at Peterborough United would like thank Kayleigh for her wonderful contribution and wish her well in her retirement.
