Benji McWilliams-Marcano

We are pleased to announce that young winger Benjamin McWilliams-Marcano has put pen to paper on a professional contract.

The teenager, who hails from Peterborough, enjoyed an excellent campaign last season, with regular appearances for the Under 18s and a host of games for the Under 21s.

Academy Director Dan Robinson said: "It is a well deserved opportunity for Benji. He has worked incredibly hard on and off the pitch. He comes from lovely family who support him brilliantly and is another example of a player who has been a benefit of our wonderful relationship with Nene Park Academy."

Senior PDP Coach Ryan Semple said: "Benji has been with us a long while now, during his two-year scholarship he has progressed really well, the second half of last season he came into his own, firstly in the Under 18s, creating and scoring a lot of goals. He is a really dynamic player, he wants to get on the outside and get balls into the box and he also got on the end of crosses from the other side.

"He was then introduced into Under 21 football and carried on that form. I am absolutely delighted that he has been rewarded with this contract and look forward to helping him develop."

Head of Education/Assistant Academy Manager Ben Seymour-Shove said: "Benji is another positive example of our relationship with Nene Park Academy. He is another player that progressed through our Full-Time Training Model which allowed him to combine his academic progress with his football development. Through the his attitude and application he was able to really benefit from the provision and experience positive football and academic development.

"Off the pitch Benji is an impressive individual who gained some excellent GCSE's through Nene Park Academy and built on that at the football club with his apprenticeship provision gaining the best possible outcomes in all of his educational qualifications.  We are excited about the future for Benji both on and off the pitch and we look forward to continuing to support his football and personal progress."

McWilliams-Marcano said: "I am really pleased. I enjoyed the challenges of last season across both the Under 18s and the Under 21s, for me, it is about working hard, working on my processes in training and continuing to improve under the excellent coaches we have at the club."

McWilliams-Marcano has signed a one-year (plus a year's option) contract with the club.
