Posh v Wycombe Wanderers

A look ahead to Saturday’s Sky Bet League One meeting with Wycombe Wanderers at the Weston Homes Stadium (3pm).

Peterborough United welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Weston Homes Stadium in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon (3pm) with both sides returning to action following the international break.

Both sides went into that break with plenty of momentum, Posh beating Lincoln City 2-0 thanks to goals from David Ajiboye and Joel Randall, while the Chairboys ran out 4-1 winners at Fleetwood Town with Dale Taylor at the double.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of goalkeeper Will Blackmore and midfielder Jeando Fuchs due to injury, while Malik Mothersille got 45 minutes under his belt in the under 21s victory over Burnley earlier this week. He is likely to feature for an hour for the under 21s at Crewe Alexandra on Monday and if he comes through unscathed could be added to the squad travelling to Blackpool next Saturday.

Kwame Poku trained on Thursday after injury forced him off against the Imps, but central defender Jadel Katongo is a doubt after picking up a groin injury on international duty for England’s Men’s Elite Squad. Hector Kyprianou and Ronnie Edwards both featured for their countries during the break but have come back reporting no injuries.

Wycombe are unlikely to make too many changes to their squad ahead of the clash with Posh and they have plenty of attacking options to choose from. Former Posh defender Ryan Tafazolli is expected to be in their XI.

ONE TO WATCH

Sam Vokes (pictured below) joined Wycombe in the summer of 2021 after spending the majority of his career in the Championship. The Welsh international has netted 26 goals for the Chairboys and has provided a focal point for them in attack. Good in the air, excellent with his back to goal and potent in the box, Vokes has the ability to keep defenders occupied and with talent coming from midfield in the form of Freddie Potts, you can see why the visitors have been on a good run.

FROM THE MANAGER

“Wycombe have a lot of good attacking options with Vokes, Taylor, McLeary and Hanlon, they have good depth to their squad. I think when Gareth Ainsworth left to join QPR, it seemed the natural fit for Matt Bloomfield, a former player, to go in there and he has done a good job. Their manager is still trying to imprint what he wants, but you can see they are a good side. We are at home, our form at home has been good and we need to keep that going,” Darren Ferguson said.

Wycombe fans will be accommodated in the away section of the North Stand with around 300 currently sold. Posh fans can purchase tickets now at www.theposhtickets.com and via the Weston Homes Stadium Box Office. The Deskgo Stand is open for Posh fans.

HEAD TO HEAD

Two goals from Ivan Toney (pictured below) and strikes from Siriki Dembele and Jack Taylor earned Posh a 4-0 win over Wycombe back in 2020. You can watch the highlights from that game here.

We mentioned Ryan Tafazolli (pictured below) earlier in this preview, but he is not the only man in the Wycombe ranks to have played for Posh with Kieran Sadlier joining the Chairboys earlier in the campaign. TRIBUTE

As a mark of respect to all those that have lost their lives in the current conflict, the League have requested that players continue to wear black armbands across all EFL fixtures this weekend. In addition, there will be a period of silence be observed prior to all EFL fixtures this weekend as mark of a reflection of the tragic events in Israel and Palestine.
