Following a 100% home record since the club’s return to the city, we chart where it has gone right for Peterborough United Women this season.
Ahead of the season, the club confirmed its return to the city after three years based at Abbey Lawn in Bourne. A new partnership with Peterborough Sports, the club has since picked up maximum points from six league games at PIMS Park, scoring 22 goals in that time.
An 8–0 victory over Lincoln United on the opening day clearly set the tone for what was to come, and after falling just short of promotion last season, Jake Poole’s side has since righted its wrongs to sit comfortably in the promotion race.
Summer additions were made, but most importantly, the club were able to hold onto the bulk of the squad, who stuck together with one shared goal: promotion.
And as a result, the team are firmly in the promotion picture, sitting just two points off the top with two games in hand.
Defensively, Anna Pitt has settled seamlessly, playing a key role in a backline that has conceded just once at home. Evie Driscoll-King and Neive Corry have also been important to our defensive home record, with both players recently celebrating landmark 100th appearances against Sheffield FC and Wallsend BC, respectively.
At the other end of the pitch, Jess Rousseau has hit the ground running since her arrival from Leeds United and currently leads the club’s scoring charts with 13 goals in all competitions.
But that’s not to take away from the talent across the squad, who have all played their part this season, and the appetite for more will be clear as attentions turns to Sunday’s visit of Sutton Coldfield.
