With five league fixtures to go in the Professional Development League, it has been a positive campaign to date for the Under 21s group despite recent defeats.

It may have been a challenging set of recent results for the Peterborough United Under 21s, but they can still be proud of their campaign to date and there were still plenty of positives to take from recent games against Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday despite defeats.

Posh were beaten 3-2 by Hull City and 2-1 by Sheffield Wednesday in the last two weeks and are without a fixture this week, but Lead Under 21s Coach admitted his young group are learning all the time.

"Against Hull City, we dominated the game, but the goals we conceded were very sloppy, but if you look at the match overall, there were so many opportunities we created in front of goal and we have to be more clinical. I was happy with the overall display though.

"Against Sheffield Wednesday, it was a different kind of game, we had more opportunities than them, but we conceded two late goals and that was extremely disappointing. Again, the performance at times, was good, so we take the positives despite the results.

"We have got five league games left and they are against sides in the southern section. It is not about results, it is about the development of the players, but if you finish in the top four you go into a play-off system and you play the bottom teams in PL2 and that will be a good experience for the players to come up against different opposition.

"I think if you look at the Under 21s group, the season has been really positive, it is years of hard work, every year at this age group we have got better, last season we finished with 37 points and we are on 40 now, so we are moving in the right direction," Gaughran said.
