Declan Frith

Not many 23-year-olds can say they have played in three different countries, but sometimes taking yourself out of your comfort zone can be quite daunting.

Declan Frith is not someone who was fazed by that though. After spells at Aston Villa and Chelsea within their Academy set-ups, the winger moved to Spain, representing the reserve side of Valencia. before moving to Switzerland to represent FC Thun.

Frith helped Thun clinch the Swiss Challenge League and they will play the 2025/26 campaign in the Swiss Super League. After penning a three-year deal at Peterborough United, he is already excited about what lies ahead.

"It has been a move that has been actually in the pipeline for about a year so I am really excited to get the deal done because this club have a history of winning trophies and I want to be a part of that. It is a big, historical club and I just can't wait to show everybody what I can do.

"It was a good experience playing out there in Switzerland. They were unlucky not to win the league the season before last so to be able to help them win the league last season was really good. We had big expectations, but we managed to win the league comfortably and although it was tough at times, it was really rewarding. I have that winning taste now, I enjoy winning titles so it would be nice if we can do that here too and get promoted.

"When you are young and English, sometimes you can just want to play in this country, but there is a big wide world out there and different experiences you can have.

"I have played in Spain and Switzerland now at a young age, sampling different cultures and that can be good to test yourself and get out of your comfort zone. I would encourage young players that if you get the opportunity to play in different countries to do so.

"In terms of the type of player that I am, I would like to think I am a tricky player, I like to express myself, take on players, use my dribbling ability, create and score goals - it is about helping the team win games."
