Personal performance, match sharpness and the want for more: Poppie Brown speaks on the women’s 6-0 win at Lincoln United on Sunday.

The midfielder spoke after adding her contribution to the weekend win, helping the team towards their 12th match unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Midlands.

“I was pleased to get a goal. I don’t get many of them, and I thought my performance was solid,” she said. I thought it was a good second half performance from the team, definitely a lot better, obviously it’s been hard to get a run of games, but this is definitely the place to start.”

The winter period has been a testing one for Jake Poole’s side, as cancelled matches have disrupted momentum and poor weather took its toll on the playing conditions again yesterday.

“Jake wanted us to play our football. It definitely affected some parts of the game; passes, ball speed, but I tried my best to do what I usually do, and sometimes it works. Without a lot of games, we sometimes forget how to play with each other, but today was good, we played good football, and hopefully we can take that into next week.

“We haven’t really had a run of games since before December. It affects fitness and how we play, but hopefully, after a good game like this, we can get back on a good run.”

It was a slow start to the game by Poole’s standards, but Lincoln were made to work and were eventually flattened by five second half goals, Brown among them.

“A lot more space opened up in the second half. We ran them down in the first, so big gaps started opening up, and I thought we played better football. It’s about keeping that good form now, playing how we play, and making sure we don’t drop off, because we know how easy it is for a team at the top to do that, so if we keep our consistency, I don’t see why we won’t get back to the top.”
