Posh head to Portsmouth on Saturday in Sky Bet League One action.

Peterborough United are back on the road on Saturday with a trip to Fratton Park to face Portsmouth in Sky Bet League One action (3pm) and Pompey will be backed by a sold-out crowd of 2,000 with the city falling into a Tier 2 region.

Kenny Jackett’s men will be looking to bounce back after a 1-0 defeat at Blackpool while Darren Ferguson will be looking for his side to build on the performance against AFC Wimbledon but obviously improve in both boxes.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of former Portsmouth left-back Dan Butler due to a calf injury while midfielder Joe Ward is sidelined with a knee problem. Ricky-Jade Jones is nearing fitness as he recovers from a leg injury, but Nathan Thompson and Jonson Clarke-Harris are both expected to feature after returning to the starting line-up at Plough Lane.

Michael Jacobs is currently the only player sidelined for the Blues, having suffered a knee injury at Sunderland in October. The Pompey boss restored Marcus Harness to a striker role and brought Ryan Williams back into the starting XI after his groin injury in the 1-0 loss at Blackpool on Tuesday.

But the Blues struggled for any attacking spark, which may persuade Jackett to tweak things. Ellis Harrison is an option to start up front alongside John Marquis after coming off the bench against the Seasiders. Jordy Hiwula is another option for the home side.

FROM THE GAFFER

“Portsmouth is always a tough place to go and they will be backed by 2,000 supporters so there will be some form of atmosphere inside the stadium. Kenny Jackett is an experienced manager and has been successful at this level and they have good attacking options. I have watched three of their games including Tuesday at Blackpool and they have gone with several different permutations in attack.

“We know that we need to be better in both boxes. We have conceded too many goals and only kept a clean sheet in one of the last seven matches. We also know that we need to be more ruthless in front of goal and start taking our opportunities when they come. We are having a bit of a blip, we know that, but we also know that can change very quickly,” Darren Ferguson said.
