Posh host Colchester United in a vital Sky Bet League One clash on Wednesday evening (7.45pm).

Peterborough United entertain Colchester United at London Road on Wednesday evening (7.45pm) knowing that a victory would strengthen their position in the League One play-off picture.

After the euphoria of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy success at Wembley Stadium, the focus turns to league matters and one of the games in hand that Darren Ferguson's men currently have over their nearest challengers.

Ferguson was quick to re-focus the minds in his pre-match press conference and insists that Wednesday's clash with the U's is hugely important.

'Our home form is going to be key. We have five games remaining at London Road and they are hugely important. We need to start on the front foot and try and build on the success we enjoyed on Sunday.

'We will take it game by game, but the players should use that experience at Wembley to spur them on to get back there in May. It wasn't our best performance on Sunday, but we won the game and now we have to use that as a catalyst for the rest of the season.

'Our best form of defence is to attack and that is how I want to approach these remaining games. We have players available after missing Sunday through being cup-tied and I will try and pick the best team possible that I feel can win the game,' Ferguson said.

Posh have an injury worry over central defender Shaun Brisley who came off at Wembley with a tight muscle injury. He will be assessed ahead of the game. Conor Washington, Nicky Ajose, Ben Nugent and Jack Baldwin are available after missing the cup win because they were cup tied.

Colchester were beaten 2-0 by Notts County at the weekend and have been sucked closer to the relegation zone. The U's beat Posh 1-0 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium thanks to a goal from Macauley Bonne. Posh won a Capital One Cup tie at the same venue 5-1 in August.
