Middlesbrough Women v Posh Women: Match Preview

jake

The Posh Women are back on the road this weekend with a trip north to face Middlesbrough (2pm).

The Peterborough United Women make the long journey north to face Middlesbrough in the Northern Premier League on Sunday (2pm) with Jake Poole' side looking to build on the big win in the FAWNL Cup last weekend.

After five league games, Posh have three points, secured thanks to a home win over Liverpool Feds, but have been beaten by Derby County, Loughborough Ligthning and the two top sides in the division, West Bromwich Albion and Rugby Borough.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are hopeful that defender Evie Driscoll-King will be available for selection after the full-back missed the last few games due to injury. Brodie Greenwood, Courtney Clarke and Hayley James remain unavailable.

Recent signing Grace Bartlett is pushing for a start after a 30-minute cameo in the cup win over Leicester City PGA.

MANAGER QUOTES

"It is a long journey for us, but one we are looking forward too. Middlesbrough have a lot of good players and whilst they haven't amassed the points you would perhaps expect at this stage of the season, their performances have been good and they will be a real threat," Jake Poole said.

TICKET DETAILS

The game is being played on the 3G surface at Stockton Town Football Club (TS19 0QD). It is CARD ONLY at the turnstiles with tickets priced at £5 for adults with under 16s admitted free of charge.

Super Brown Strike Earns Posh Women Excellent Away Win

Poppie Brown scored the only goal of the game as the Posh Women recorded their first ever away win at Tier 3 level with a 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough.

The Peterborough United Women recorded their second league win of the campaign and their first on the road as a superb strike from Poppie Brown earned Jake Poole's side a 1-0 victory at Stockton Town Football Club, the home of Middlesbrough.

Brown, who was also on the receiving end of a unnecessary hair pull, which led to a red card for Olivia Watt just before the half-time interval, let fly from the edge of the box, leaving goalkeeper Megan Borthwick with no chance.

Deployed in a new formation, Posh worked their socks off out of possession and when they had the ball, they caused problems to their established Tier 3 opponents.

Evie Driscoll-King, who returned to the starting line-up after injury, headed wide on four minutes while the in-form Ellie May was denied by the goalkeeper after good link-up play with Crista Ganado.

May came close to bundling home the opening goal on 37 minutes following a right-wing centre before the deadlock was broken as BROWN fired an unstoppable shot past the keeper from the edge of the box.

Watt was dismissed a minute before the half-time interval for a pointless hair tug and moments later, May had the ball in the back of the net but it was chalked off for offside.

Keir Perkins saw a cross-shot clawed away by Borthwick on 51 minutes with Brown firing over from distance after Perkins and Driscoll had combined well.

A shot from May on 70 minutes was tipped over by the goalkeeper as Posh pushed for a second goal. The home side pushed everyone forward late on including their goalkeeper in an attempt to level, but only a shot from a tight angle, which may have clipped part of the woodwork, threatened Neive Corry in goal.

Posh: Corry, Jenkins, Pitt, Driscoll-King (sub Osker 76min), Perkins (sub Wilshaw 86min), Brown (sub Saunders 89min), Driscoll (sub Reynolds 78min), Mears, Bartlett, Ganado, May. Unused subs: Andersen, Rai.
