Poppie Brown scored the only goal of the game as the Posh Women recorded their first ever away win at Tier 3 level with a 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough.

The Peterborough United Women recorded their second league win of the campaign and their first on the road as a superb strike from Poppie Brown earned Jake Poole's side a 1-0 victory at Stockton Town Football Club, the home of Middlesbrough.

Brown, who was also on the receiving end of a unnecessary hair pull, which led to a red card for Olivia Watt just before the half-time interval, let fly from the edge of the box, leaving goalkeeper Megan Borthwick with no chance.

Deployed in a new formation, Posh worked their socks off out of possession and when they had the ball, they caused problems to their established Tier 3 opponents.

Evie Driscoll-King, who returned to the starting line-up after injury, headed wide on four minutes while the in-form Ellie May was denied by the goalkeeper after good link-up play with Crista Ganado.

May came close to bundling home the opening goal on 37 minutes following a right-wing centre before the deadlock was broken as BROWN fired an unstoppable shot past the keeper from the edge of the box.

Watt was dismissed a minute before the half-time interval for a pointless hair tug and moments later, May had the ball in the back of the net but it was chalked off for offside.

Keir Perkins saw a cross-shot clawed away by Borthwick on 51 minutes with Brown firing over from distance after Perkins and Driscoll had combined well.

A shot from May on 70 minutes was tipped over by the goalkeeper as Posh pushed for a second goal. The home side pushed everyone forward late on including their goalkeeper in an attempt to level, but only a shot from a tight angle, which may have clipped part of the woodwork, threatened Neive Corry in goal.

Posh: Corry, Jenkins, Pitt, Driscoll-King (sub Osker 76min), Perkins (sub Wilshaw 86min), Brown (sub Saunders 89min), Driscoll (sub Reynolds 78min), Mears, Bartlett, Ganado, May. Unused subs: Andersen, Rai.
