Stourbridge Women v Posh Women: Match Preview

women

Peterborough United Women have the chance to overtake leaders Boldmere St Michaels with at least a point in the West Midlands on Sunday (2pm).

March has gotten off to a flyer for Jake Poole’s team, who last weekend beat Worcester City 7-2 in front of a crowd of over 1,700 at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Lauren Wilshaw recorded four assists on International Women’s Day and will look to continue her numbers on Sunday, as will Keir Perkins, Niamh Connor and Kayleigh Hines, who each scored twice.

Jess Rousseau’s numbers show no signs of slowing, either. The forward notched a Goal of the Month contender with our second and has already been nominated for the club’s February award.

This will be the fourth time Sunday’s fixture was scheduled to go ahead, which means Meg Bailey’s side could have a huge say in our push for promotion, being two of our remaining six league games, with a lot riding on it for the hosts themselves at the other end of the table.

TEAM NEWS

Niamh Connor picked up a knock on the weekend, but should be fit to start but midfielder Courtney Clarke remains on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

MANAGER QUOTES

"We did a lot of the preparation for the game before the game was unfortunately postponed, but we have topped that up this week and they are a much better side now than when we were due to play them. All the teams at the bottom of the table are scrapping for points and it will be a tough game for us as we try and break them down ," Jake Poole said.

Rousseau Bags Hat-Trick In Big Posh Women Win

womenreport

Peterborough United Women made it 17 unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Midlands with an 8-0 win over Stourbridge Women.

With so much riding on it for both teams, it was only one who looked like picking up the points in the West Midlands.

It took 29 seconds for the lead, as Jess ROUSSEAU’s shot crept past the hosts’ keeper on the break. Our number seven then had the chance to double her tally ten minutes later, but this time Charlotte Whitt got the better of the two.

Lauren WILSHAW was quickest to react in the area and drill in our second, before ROUSSEAU made it three with a neat move inside the box.

On 26 minutes, Hayley JAMES unerringly headed low and hard into the bottom corner to extend our lead, later added to by a Stourbridge defender, who turned Reynolds’ cross into the back of the net on the line.

ROUSSEAU took herself level with the league’s top scorer with her third of the afternoon after great determination from Keir Perkins in the final third.

We set out in the second half how we did the first, and almost immediately added number six when Tara Kirk and Niamh Connor were kept out in quick succession.

And despite a couple questionable decisions for offside, Tara KIRK kept her emotions in check and scored past Whitt on the hour.

Kayleigh HINES then put her name up for the Goal of the Season award with a controlled volley into the top corner, before Perkins rounded the hosts’ keeper and hit the woodwork from a tight angle.

The win takes us two points ahead of Boldmere St Michaels, who we face on the road next weekend, with the result holding huge importance on the say of the title.

Posh: Corry, Connor, Hines, Driscoll-King, Rousseau (sub Kirk 46min), Perkins, Reynolds (sub Brown 46min), Stanford (sub Mears 41min), Pitt (sub Osker 46min), Wilshaw (sub Rai 46min), James.
