Peterborough United Women made it 17 unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Midlands with an 8-0 win over Stourbridge Women.
With so much riding on it for both teams, it was only one who looked like picking up the points in the West Midlands.
It took 29 seconds for the lead, as Jess ROUSSEAU’s shot crept past the hosts’ keeper on the break. Our number seven then had the chance to double her tally ten minutes later, but this time Charlotte Whitt got the better of the two.
Lauren WILSHAW was quickest to react in the area and drill in our second, before ROUSSEAU made it three with a neat move inside the box.
On 26 minutes, Hayley JAMES unerringly headed low and hard into the bottom corner to extend our lead, later added to by a Stourbridge defender, who turned Reynolds’ cross into the back of the net on the line.
ROUSSEAU took herself level with the league’s top scorer with her third of the afternoon after great determination from Keir Perkins in the final third.
We set out in the second half how we did the first, and almost immediately added number six when Tara Kirk and Niamh Connor were kept out in quick succession.
And despite a couple questionable decisions for offside, Tara KIRK kept her emotions in check and scored past Whitt on the hour.
Kayleigh HINES then put her name up for the Goal of the Season award with a controlled volley into the top corner, before Perkins rounded the hosts’ keeper and hit the woodwork from a tight angle.
The win takes us two points ahead of Boldmere St Michaels, who we face on the road next weekend, with the result holding huge importance on the say of the title.
