Peterborough United Women make the trip to face Burnley Women in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup third round on Sunday (1pm).

Peterborough United Women are back in Adobe Women’s FA Cup action this weekend, making the trip to Burnley, with both teams unbeaten and at the top of their respective divisions.

Jake Poole’s team made the third round with a comfortable 4-0 passage over Wallsend BC, and most recently trimmed up a win over Kidderminster Harriers to make it ten unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Midlands.

The Clarets have had their own share of success this season, though, winning their last six which sees Lou Roberts’ side sitting at the top of the third tier.

MANAGER QUOTES

"It is a good test for us, something different, someone we wouldn't normally face. When the draw was made, it was interesting because I know the Burnley manager well, she is probably my best friend in football, so it will be fun being in opposite dugouts. They are a very good side, they have scored a lot and not conceded many, we have to be disciplined and then we need to take our chances if and when they come ," Jake Poole said.

Peterborough United Women were undone by a complete Clarets performance, who move into the fourth round of the competition with a 7-0 win at the County Ground.

Jake Poole's side were coming up against full-time opposition and one that will almost certainly be in the Championship next season and that class told in the end despite a battling first 40 minutes, which remained goalless.

It was the home team who made the early inroads, as Claudia Walker was teed up in the middle, only to shoot over. Yana Daniels’ low shot was then saved comfortably by Neive Corry before Thea Paul saw her attempt blocked behind by Anna Pitt, in turn sending us on the break.

Keir Perkins was released along with Rousseau, who matched the Clarets’ defensive numbers, but was stuck for options as the home team recovered quickly.

Jake Poole’s team continued to find difficulty in laying a glove on the Burnley defence, who continued to attack at the other end, with Daniels shooting wide.

The midfielder continued to redress the balance in the hosts’ favour after a series of stoppages to the game, this time coming out on top in her aerial duel, but her header was low and routine for Corry.

Burnley were doing well at pinning us in our defensive third, and saw their pressure rewarded late into the half when Charlie CHADWICK and DANIELS scored before the interval

With work to do, the game became more open with Jake Poole’s team committing more bodies forward. But we were kept largely at arm’s length, and the Clarets added a third through Millie RAVENING from the spot after a push in the box was spotted.

DOCHERTY made it 4-0 on the hour mark, before WALKER grabbed number five with a brave finish after good work from Ravening to send the Clarets’ number nine through.

Emma SIDDALL added her name to the scoresheet as the goals continued to come for the hosts and with no time to settle, WALKER rounded up the scoring to secure the hosts’ passage into the fourth round.

Posh: Corry, Hines, Driscoll-King, Sharpe (sub Wilshaw 58min), Rousseau (sub Kirk 68min), Perkins (sub Rai 68min), Lawlor (sub Brown 58min), Stanford (sub Mears 58min), Pitt, Clarke, Osker. Unused subs: Bennett, Cragg.
