The Posh Under 18s are back in action on Saturday with a trip to Colchester United (11am).

The Peterborough United Under 18s return to Professional Development League action on Saturday after a weekend without a fixture last week with a trip to Colchester United (11am).

Lead Under 18s Coach Jimmy Unwin will take his side to Florence Park looking to build on the hard-fought 2-1 victory over Millwall at the Bespoke Builds Training Ground last time out.

TEAM NEWS

It will be a similar squad on duty for the game that took on the Lions with in-form striker Bolu Shofowoke looking to build on his impressive start to the season.

Goalkeeper Ben Westcott has been in good form between the sticks and will need to be alert to keep out a Category Two Academy who have produced a host of top players in recent years.

MANAGER QUOTES

"It was a strong performance against Millwall last time out and we will be looking to replicate that display against Colchester United. Colchester are very similar to us, they play young players up an age level and obviously a lot of the younger players are in and around the first team squad. I am sure it will be an even match, they are another side that are looking at player development rather than results so it will be a good test for the boys," Unwin said.

THE OPPOSITION

It has been a tough start for the U's with defeats against Hull City, Crewe Alexandra and Sheffield United, but they were 2-1 winners over Barnsley in early August.

Benji McWilliams-Marcano

The Posh Under 18s were beaten 4-2 by Colchester United on Saturday morning with striker Bolu Shofowoke continuing his fine start to the season with another goal.

The Peterborough United youngsters were undone by a direct U's side with Jimmy Unwin's side creating a host of chances in front of goal, but a combination of excellent goalkeeping and poor finishing ultimately proved costly as mistakes at the back allowed the hosts to run out 4-2 winners.

Benji McWilliams-Marcano, who was described as the 'best player on the pitch' by Unwin, scored a fine solo effort while Shofowoke raced onto a clever pass to nip in front of the goalkeeper to score.

Unfortunately for Posh, the U's exploited mistakes at the back and despite a 25 minute period in the second half, where the city youngsters were camped in their opponents half, the day ended in defeat.

"It was frustrating and it is definitely an area that we need to work hard on because we gifted goals and at any level of football, you will always get punished if you are defending poorly.

"We gave away a penalty, were punished for not clearing our lines as we tried to play through the press and individually we made mistakes. It is not a good recipe for success.

"We looked good going forward, created a lot of opportunities and on another day, we could have scored more, we had one cleared off the line and their goalkeeper made some good saves," Unwin said.
