Bespoke Builds Training Ground

The Posh Under 18s will welcome Hull City to the Bespoke Builds Training Ground on Saturday morning (11am).

The Peterborough United Under 18s will be looking to make up for lost time when they entertain Hull City at the Bespoke Builds Training Ground on Saturday morning (11am).

The Posh youngsters were without a fixture last week due to the weather, but are expected to face the Tigers regardless of the weather conditions this weekend.

TEAM NEWS

Once again, it will be a young side that will be on duty for Posh with an Under 21s fixture against Coventry City in midweek and several players supporting the first team group.

MANAGER QUOTES

"Last week's game was called off, so this game is really important for the group to get some minutes under their belt. We are hoping to put in a strong performance and show what they are all about against a side that are currently top of the division.

"It is a tough test, but hopefully we can show what we can do. Between now and the end of the season it is about progress for the players, it doesn't matter whether it is slow or quick, as long as they are all moving in the right direction.

"They need to show their togetherness, the Under 21s demonstrated it against Sheffield United earlier in the week and the first team did exactly the same at Mansfield Town, I want to see this group do the same," Lead Under 18s Coach Jimmy Unwin said.

Peterborough United Under 18s produced an impressive performance to secure a 3–2 victory over league leaders Hull City U18s at home. McWilliams-Marcano led the attacking display with two goals and an assist, while the Posh demonstrated resilience and composure to regain control of the contest on multiple occasions.

Hull City began the game on the front foot, pressing high in an attempt to dictate the tempo, but the Posh remained disciplined and looked to exploit transition moments. Their approach paid off in the 20th minute. McWilliams-Marcano drove beyond his marker on the right before delivering a precise cut-back, which LAWRENCE met with an intelligent run and a composed finish over the goalkeeper to open the scoring.

The visitors gradually increased their share of possession and were awarded a penalty on 32 minutes following a defensive challenge. Hull converted two minutes later to level the match. Despite the setback, the Posh maintained their organisation and focus to ensure the sides went into the interval level at 1–1.

Hull City edged ahead shortly after the restart, finding the net on 48 minutes. Once again, however, the response from the Posh was immediate and purposeful. On 53 minutes, MCWILLIAMS-MARCANO showed composure inside the area to guide a low effort into the bottom-right corner, restoring parity and shifting the momentum back in the hosts’ favour.

A defensive adjustment followed on 64 minutes as a Trialist replaced Arber. During this period Hull City created several threatening moments, but the Posh stood firm. Concentrated defending, brave blocks and intelligent cover play ensured the scoreline remained unchanged.

Further changes came on 81 minutes, with Okoli and Norville introduced to inject fresh energy and mobility into the side. The substitutions helped maintain the tempo and stability as the game entered its decisive phase.

The winning moment arrived in the 84th minute. Fitzpatrick delivered from wide, and MCWILLIAMS-MARCANO reacted sharply to convert and restore the Posh lead. Hull City committed bodies forward in search of another equaliser, but the hosts managed the closing stages with discipline. In stoppage time, Westcott produced an outstanding fingertip save to deny a late effort and preserve the three points.

Lead Under 18s Coach Jimmy Unwin said:  "There were difficult moments against strong opposition, but what impressed me most was the belief the players maintained throughout. Their reaction to setbacks and their concentration in key moments reflected what we’ve been working on. There is still plenty to improve, but experiences like this are invaluable for their development.”

This victory carries significance beyond the result itself. The resilience and composure shown across the ninety minutes underline the direction in which the group is progressing. The Posh will now look to build on this momentum and continue their development in the fixtures ahead.

Posh: Westcott, Bushell, Joseph, Christoudias, Arber (sub Trailist 64 min), Sudakaran, McWilliams-Marcano, Lawrence (sub Norville 81 min), Fitzpatrick, Mlityalwa, Sango (sub Okoli 81 min). Unused Subs: Sammour, Fraser.
