Matthew Garbett joined Posh in the summer of 2025 following a spell in the Netherlands with NEC Breda where he featured over 50 times at the top level in the country, scoring memorably against Ajax. A New Zealand international, with over 30 caps to his name, he can operate in any midfield position and likes to get forward and support the attack. He was called into the New Zealand squad for the 2026 World Cup, but was cruelly denied participation after suffering a hamstring injury ahead of the opening game.

Garbett featured for his country in the warm-up game with England in the United States and is due back to full fitness in October. Demonstrated his versatility last season by operating as central midfielder, number 10 and as a wide player.
