The Posh Under 18s were beaten 4-2 by Wigan Athletic on Saturday morning and have a busy week with the FA Youth Cup first round scheduled for Wednesday evening.

The Peterborough United Under 18s suffered defeat to Wigan Athletic on Saturday morning in Professional Development League action, although in truth it was predominantly an Under 16s on duty as a large chunk of the Under 18s played for the Under 21s at Newcastle United on Friday evening.

It was competitive opening 30 minutes to the game, but the Latics side raced into a commanding lead before second half goals from Ayodele Akinsanya and Chibuzo Okoli gave Posh hope.

Lead Under 18s Coach Hugh Alban-Jones said: "It was a brilliant experience for the group. We had a lot of young players out there, but we wouldn't put them in the team if we didn't believe they could handle the challenge.

"We started the game well, we were very competitive for the first 30 minutes in the game, but then we conceded a poor goal and didn't really recover and found ourselves 4-0 down. That can happen to a young group, We spoke at half-time about wanting to see a reaction and believing they could get back into the game and we scored two good goals.

"We were more physical in the duels. We had to suffer in the 90 minutes, but it was a good experience for the players. 'Chibby' deserved his goal, he won the penalty and was a real threat, looks physically in a good place and then "Ayo' scored a good second goal."
