Sam Gaughran’s men got three points on the road as they beat Coventry City Under 21’s 2-1 in the Professional Development League.

The Peterborough United Under 21s picked up an impressive three points on the road as a young XI overcame hosts Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

There were a number of half-chances in the first few minutes with striker Bolu Shofowoke going close for Posh. The hosts created half-chances for Finney and Brau but they were not composed in front of goal.

Posh operated a fast high pressing system, and they would have taken the lead through it had the referee not presumed Changunda to have blocked Richards’ clearance with his hand.

Sykut followed this with two efforts at goal back to back, with the latter being dragged narrowly wide. Coventry’s Toluwaloju was booked 23 minutes in after committing a clumsy challenge on Claxton.

Siddall created two opportunities for himself on the half-hour mark. The former resulting in a corner, and some fast thinking from the corner meant he could attempt a low drive from an acute angle but Smith turned the effort onto the post.

Siddall was involved once again eight minutes later and created the opener for the hosts, as his cross found George SHEPHERD, who poked it into the net from close range.

Posh started the second half better, with multiple dangerous set-pieces won from good final third play. Posh equalised on the hour mark, as they converted from another set-piece, with a cross from the right flank being met by Noah FREEMAN, who placed his header past the helpless Richards.

Posh won another set-piece less than 10 minutes later, with Fox being brought down close to the penalty area And an effort was converted, as Trialist A fired his free-kick low and hard to the keeper’s left and gave Posh the lead with 20 minutes to play.

Some time-wasting from Sykut found him in the book with a minute to play, but Posh did enough to claim all three points. Posh will look to make it back to back wins against Crewe Alexandra U21’s on the 12th November at the Weston Homes Stadium.
