Action between Posh and Peterborough Sports

A youthful Posh XI secured a 1-0 victory at neighbours Peterborough Sports in the latest pre-season friendly with David Kamara netting a second half winner.

Peterborough United made it three wins from four in pre-season with a 1-0 victory over Peterborough Sports at PIMS Park on Wednesday evening as over 1,000 fans turned out in the summer sunshine to watch a young XI in action.

With most of the senior squad in action at Colchester United 24 hours earlier, it was Senior PDP Lead Ryan Semple who was in the dugout as the Academy took centre stage against Graham Drury's men.

It was a first half of few chances as both sides got to grips with the game with Kamara heading over from a left-wing cross and a shot from Trialist B being beaten away by the goalkeeper.

Oliver Arber headed over from a corner before the clearest chance of the first 45 minutes as Kamara was played in, but his toe-poke was kept out by the goalkeeper.

There were wholesale changes at the break but within two minutes, Posh were ahead as KAMARA took advantage of a defensive mix-up to round the keeper and slot the ball into the empty net.

Bastian Smith made a good save on 70 minutes to keep out a free header from Keeble before doing well down at his near post to keep out another low effort.

Smith beat away a fierce drive from Michael Richens as the game moved into the final 10 minutes, but Posh held on for the win on a proud night for the Academy with a 15-year-old concluding the contest at centre back alongside a host of other 16 and 17-year-olds.
