A second half close-range strike from Kyle Wootton was the difference as Stockport secured a 1-0 victory over Posh at Edgeley Park.
Football has a habit of making you look silly sometimes. For large parts of this Sky Bet League One contest, Peterborough United defended well, but if you look at the highlights later on, you will probably be exasperated the goal that ultimately settled this fixture.
A poor clearance, a ricochet and a tap in. Unfortunately at the other end of the pitch, Posh are very rarely gifted goals in that fashion.,
That frustration would have been increased by the lack of a clinical edge in the final third with goalkeeper Luca Ashby-Hammond denying Harry Leonard in the second half while the studs of substitute Danny Ormerod just failed to connect with Ethan Williams' low centre,
Alex Bass was not severely tested by a normally free-scoring Stockport side. He did well to beat away a Wootton effort in the first half after a fine block from Lucca Mendonca, and kept out Jack Diamond's low drive and a long-range toe-poke from Ollie Norwood in the second period, but this was not just a routine home win.
Ben Woods twice fired over from the edge of the box, while there were many instances in both halves of the final ball or the final action just not the right one for those in black.
Leonard's chance proved to be a big one, he was picked out by Chris Conn-Clarke superbly, but toe-poked his shot into the body of the keeper.
Bolu Shofowoke was denied by the legs of the keeper in the first half after a strong run, but the eventual shot was probably going wide after the defenders did well to hold him up.
The teenager also could have perhaps done better after Ormerod and Leonard linked well, the keeper making a routine stop.
Posh are without a fixture next weekend with decisions to be made on Luke Williams' replacement on the agenda.
