It proved to be a difficult day for the Posh Women as they were comfortably beaten by Derby County at PIMS Park on Sunday afternoon.
'A humbling experience'. Those were the words of manager Jake Poole following the Northern Premier League defeat to Derby County. The Peterborough United Women's manager was quite right in his assessment of his side's first 25 minutes - they were second best all over the pitch and as a result gave themselves a mountain to climb.
That mountain has been climbed in the past, but it was too much today. The visitors thoroughly deserved the three points and added a third goal in an improved display by Poole's side.
It is back-to-back home defeats for Posh and they have work to do before their next league encounter with an FAWNL Cup tie against Leicester City PGA next Sunday.
Ellie May did hit the woodwork for Posh, once in the first half and once in the second while Niamh Reynolds and Poppie Brown did register decent efforts on target, but the Ewes were always in control.
They scored twice in the first 20 minutes, the first coming from long-range and the second was well executed, although Posh will feel they could have done better with both efforts.
Neive Corry did make one smart stop by her near post and also did expertly to keep out a curling effort from range, but was beaten by a killer third goal midway through the second half.
Posh, who remain without Hayley James, Evie Driscoll-King, Courtney Clarke and Brodie Greenwood, are hopeful of strengthening their squad ahead of their next league game with one league win from their first five games.
