The Posh Women began their FAWNL Cup campaign with a comprehensive victory over Notts County at PIMS Park.

Winger Lauren Wilshaw scored twice as the Peterborough United Women overcame Tier 4 opposition on Thursday night as Jake Poole's team started their FAWNL Cup group phase with a 6-0 win over Notts County.

Posh were in control from the first whistle to the last and could have reached double figures given the chances squandered in front of goal and the form of the visiting keeper.

It was WILSHAW who got the ball rolling for Posh, providing a clever little lobbed finish after Crista Ganado had been denied by a brave save. Defender Niamh Connor cracked a right-footed effort against the crossbar and Evie Driscoll-King drilled a low shot wide before Posh got a second as GANADO saw her effort deflect into the back of the net via the boot of a defender.

Wilshaw and Ganado both went close to a third with Romy Saunders also firing wide in a first half that was one-way traffic. Nothing changed in the second half, Saunders smacked an effort against the post before Kira RAI made it 3-0 with a tidy left-footed finish on 53 minutes.

Three minutes later, it was 4-0 as WILSHAW found the bottom corner with a composed finish after jinking into the box in trademark style. Edyn Osker fired wide from 25-yards on 59 minutes, before Posh added a fifth through substitute Ellie MAY who fired past the keeper with plenty of pace and power.

On 72 minutes, Posh completed the scoring as OSKER got the goal she deserved, finishing calmly from inside the area. Wilshaw was denied a hat-trick late on as Posh began their group phase fixtures in style.

Posh travel to Rugby Borough next up in the competition before welcoming Leicester City PGA to PIMS Park.
