Wigan Athletic

Posh are back on the road once more this weekend with a trip to Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday (3pm).

Peterborough United travel to the Brick Community Stadium to face Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon (3pm) with Darren Ferguson's men determined to get their season up and running after two league defeats at the hands of Cardiff City and Luton Town, two of the three teams relegated from the Sky Bet Championship.

Posh also bowed out of the Carabao Cup in midweek at Accrington Stanley, but with plenty of work being undertaken in the transfer market to reshape the squad, by the end of the window, the starting XI could have a different feel to it going into September.

Wigan have won two out of the three games they have played so far with their only defeat coming on the road at Leyton Orient.

TEAM NEWS

Defender Carl Johnston and striker Bradley Ihionvien are fit again after missing the 2-1 loss at the Wham Stadium in midweek, but Sam Hughes is a long-term absenteee.

Goalkeeper Alex Bass is making good progress from a foot injury and could return quicker than anticipated while Rio Adebisi is still scheduled to get minutes for the Under 21s towards the end of September. Declan Frith won't feature on Saturday, but hasn't been ruled out of Tuesday night's clash with Barnsley at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Wigan are without the services of on-loan Liverpool youngster Isaac Mabaya due to an Achilles injury.

ONE TO WATCH

Paul Mullin

Wigan secured the loan signing of striker Paul Mullin (pictured below) from Sky Bet Championship side Wrexham in the summer and he will add firepower to a side that struggled in that area last term.

Mullin, who enjoyed one of his best campaigns for Cambridge United, has helped Wrexham progress into the Football League, but was frozen out towards the end of the League One success and deemed surplus to requirements in the Championship.

MANAGER QUOTES

"We didn't do the basics right on Tuesday night and you can only let your quality come through if you do the basics and that means winning first contacts, second balls, running more, set-pieces, we need to improve in that area, but the players aren't stupid, they know that themselves. Wigan are a good footballing side, they have had a good start to the season, it will be a tough game, but they are all tough at this level," Darren Ferguson said.
