Posh U21s secure impressive victory over The Tigers.

Peterborough United U21s recorded an emphatic 6-0 victory over Hull City U21s in the Professional Development League on Tuesday evening, with Jacob Wakeling netting a brace at the Dransfield Stadium.

Trialist B also grabbed a brace on the evening while Donay O’Brien-Brady and Kai Corbett got their names on the scoresheet to help secure three points for the under 21s, lifting them from the bottom of the table.

It was Corbett who had the first opportunity of the game on six minutes as his effort was pushed onto the bar by Lo-Tutala, the ball fell to Harley Mills on the rebound but was deflected wide for a corner. Rocco Coyle tested Posh’s trialist goalkeeper from with a free-kick, pushing it away for a corner kick.

Charlie O’Connell dragged an effort wide of the target before Furlong recovered well to block Wakeling’s shot. O’Brien-Brady was denied at the near-post by The Tigers goalkeeper, and at the other end, Bora Aydinlik forced a good save from the trialist goalkeeper.

The deadlock was broken on 37 minutes as Charlie O’Connell played the ball through to Wakeling, he rounded the on-rushing Lo-Tutala before slotting the ball home into the empty net. Posh doubled their lead just three minutes later as Jevon Mills was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box and Corbett stepped up and calmly slotted home the spot-kick.

Five minutes into the second half, Posh grabbed their third of the evening and Wakeling doubled his tally as he cut inside from the right-hand side and placed his left-footed effort into the bottom corner.

It became four on 67 minutes as Posh were awarded another penalty after Will Van Lier was brought down inside the box, Trialist B stepped up and dispatched his penalty. The fifth goal came a minute later as Corbett fed the ball into the path of O’Brien-Brady and he snuck the ball home at the near-post.

The Tigers searched for a consolation goal in the closing stages, Coyle’s thunderous free-kick from range hit the crossbar. Trialist B netted his second and the sixth goal of the evening as Mills’ corner found Trialist B at the back-post and his header found the back of the net to round off the scoring for Posh.
