International recognition for Academy player

Youngster Airidas Voveris recently made his first appearance for Lithuania Under 15s in a victory over Malta.

Another player within the Peterborough United Academy received their first call-up to their country last month with Under 15 Airidas Voveris representing Lithuania for two games against Malta at a training camp at the same age level.

The midfield player was away for four days, coming off the bench to make his debut in the first fixture against the Maltese before starting the second. Airidas has been in the Academy since under 9s and Head of Education Ben Seymour-Shove spoke about the important work that has taken place within the Academy.

“Firstly, we are delighted for Airidas and his family because a first call-up is something you will always remember.  This call-up highlights some of the excellent work our coaching staff do with our academy players from foundation phase through to our professional development phase.

“Airidas is also a player on our Full-Time Training Model with Nene Park Academy so it is great for us to celebrate this success with the school who also do some excellent work with our players to develop them as people and support key skills which help them achieve this level of success.  We look forward to continuing to see Airidas growth as player, alongside the wider academy.”

Academy Manager Dan Robinson said: “It is important we celebrate our successes within the Academy and Airidas making his debut for Lithuania at under 15 level is a great achievement for him and we are obviously very proud of him. We have had a number of players within our Academy go away with their countries and that is testament to the work that our coaches do day in, day out at the training ground.”
