The under 18s are in action at Wigan Athletic on Saturday (11am) in Professional Development League action.

After a match day without a fixture last weekend due to the weather, the under 18s are back in Professional Development League action on Saturday morning with a trip to Wigan Athletic (11am).

A number of the youngsters featured in the under 21s defeat to Fleetwood Town on Tuesday and manager Jimmy Unwin has a number of injuries to contend with ahead of the clash with the Latics but is looking forward to the challenge.

“We had an internal game at the training ground in the last seven days to keep the lads topped up in terms of their fitness and we had players involved for the under 21s at Fleetwood. The lads have had a really good training week and barring a couple of knocks that we have picked up, we go into this game at full strength.

“The beauty of having an under 21 team here at the club is there is always opportunity for minutes and sometimes that can be really beneficial with their development, they stayed over for example ahead of the game at Fleetwood on Tuesday.

“The schedule is quite intense as we head towards the festive period, but we are in a good place and we are looking forward to the game on Saturday up at Wigan, which will be a tough one.”
