Jed Steer

Goalkeeper Jed Steer has made the decision to depart the club after manager Darren Ferguson couldn't guarantee regular first team football.

Peterborough United can confirm that goalkeeper Jed Steer has decided to depart the football club following conversations with manager Darren Ferguson on Monday morning.

Steer, who joined on a short-term contract as cover for Nicholas Bilokapic while he was in the treatment room, played four times between the sticks and leaves with the club's thanks and best wishes.

"We have been having conversations with Jed in relation to trying to keep him for longer. There have been negotiations to and fro. I spoke to him on Friday and said that he would be playing against Lincoln City. I spoke to Nick and explained the situation, which he understood as he had only trained a couple of times last week.

"They were both aware that Nick would start in the trophy tie against AFC Wimbledon and then Jed came to see me this morning and said he wanted to go. I understood his reasons, I was a bit disappointed, not with him, just in general because I think he has done very well for us.

"He doesn't want to risk not being guaranteed playing every week. Now for me as a manager, I can't guarantee anyone playing, that is not something I have done in the past or ever would do in the future. In football, things change all the time.

"It was explained clearly that Nick would play Tuesday and I would have a decision to make for the Wigan game on Saturday. The boy has made the decision, but we have three good goalkeepers in Nick, Fynn and Will with Will obviously a few months away from fitness. We thank Jed but we move on."

You can watch the manager to discuss this in his pre-match interview, which is available to watch for free on Posh+.
