Striker Kurtis Simmons scored a hat-trick as the Under 18s overcame AFC Wimbledon in the first game of the Professional Development League Cup.
The Peterborough United Under 18s came out on top following a nine-goal thriller against AFC Wimbledon at the Bespoke Builds Training Ground on Saturday morning with striker Kurtis Simmons bagging a hat-trick.
Posh scored twice in a minute during an entertaining first half, but took control after the break with three unanswered goals. Simmons was joined on the score-sheet by Cordell Morgan-Antonio, with the 15-year-old scoring his first goal at the age group.
Maxim Mlityalwa and Prosper Sango also scored as Posh ran out 6-3 winners to the delight of Lead Under 18s Coach Hugh Alban-Jones.
"The first half was a bit of half of two halves if you like, we got 1-0 up through Cordell, a move that we had worked on in training, but then we quickly found ourselves 3-1 down, we couldn't deal with their physicality.
"That hurt us and knocked us for a bit, but then Kurtis scored twice in as many minutes and we went into the interval all square at 3-3.
"We had much more control in the second half, it was less like a basketball game and then Kurtis scored a 'worldie' with his left-foot before two more goals at the back post to make it 6-3. It was pleasing to score so many goals, obviously a little bit of work to do defensively, but I think when you work on certain things and it comes off in the game situation, you have to be pleased."
