Teenager Jess Short became the latest player to make their debut for the Peterborough United Women after impressing during training following her arrival after a successful trial.

The midfielder came on for the final 10 minutes of the FAWNL Division One Midlands victory over Barnsley at PIMS Park on Sunday after joining the Under 18s group within the club’s Academy.

Girls Academy Manager Chloe Brown said: “It is fantastic to see Jess be given her first team debut. We knew that Jess has great potential and it is good to see the hard work pay off. Jess has pushed herself out her comfort zone this year, getting senior experience alongside playing for the academy.

“As a club we love to see the girls progressing from the academy environment into the first team and Jess now joins the likes of Poppie Brown, Edyn Osker and Rebecca Mears in making that journey.”

First team manager Jake Poole said: “Jess has been training with us since Christmas and has done very well and deserved her opportunity. I had no doubts about putting her on and she did well in the minutes that she was on the pitch.”
