Action between Posh and Blackpool

A goal by substitute Scott Banks earned Blackpool a 2-1 victory at the Weston Homes Stadium as Posh suffered defeat.

At Burton Albion last week, Peterborough United secured all three points despite a below-par performance, against Blackpool seven days later, it was an improved display with plenty of attacking intent, however, there was no reward as the Seasiders secured all three points following just a handful of entries into the box.

In the first half in particular, Darren Ferguson's side played with pace and power and got into some good areas, but a combination of wayward finishing and good goalkeeping from Bailey Peacock-Farrell kept the scores level.

Of course, when you are struggling at the foot of the division, the manner in which the first goal was conceded, a shot from Josh Bowler was saved by Alex Bass, but found the back of the net via the boot of Peter Kioso, is a good example of how things often go against you.

In terms of the chances for Posh, Kyrell Lisbie and Jimmy-Jay Morgan both saw shots blocked, Harry Leonard planted a header inches wide of the target and Matt Garbett saw an effort tipped over by the goalkeeper.

The breakthrough when it came for the visitors arrived on 35 minutes, officially going down as a Kioso own-goal but a minute from half-time, GARBETT equalised with a fine strike from the edge of the box.

With an XG of 1.29 compared to 0.58 from the visitors, Posh continued to create chances in the second half, a corner was met by David Okagbue, which rebounded off the crossbar into the path of Morgan who tapped home from an offside position.

Leonard whistled a shot wide of the target after good work from Archie Collins and Harley Mills had a free-kick claimed by the goalkeeper as Posh pressed.

However, substitute BANKS had the last laugh, cutting inside onto his left-foot and bending a fine effort around Bass and into the back of the net.
