The Posh Women have made their first summer signing with the arrival of former Leicester City youngster.

Peterborough United Women have bolstered their midfield options ahead of the new campaign with the arrival of 18-year-old Romy Saunders from Leicester City.

The box-to-box midfielder has spent five years within the Foxes Academy and becomes Jake Poole's first recruit of the close season. Saunders, who trained with Posh towards the back end of the promotion-winning campaign, is set to feature in the first pre-season friendly on Sunday, which is a behind closed doors encounter at Sutton Coldfield.

Manager Jake Poole said: "We are delighted to bring Romy to the club. She is a player that matches the ambition of of the club as we enter this new era.

"She is a dynamic and athletic midfielder who will bring real energy to the team and we look forward to watching her grow in senior football.

Saunders said: "I am really excited to be here and looking forward to the challenge. It is a new environment for me and it is one that I am really pleased to be a part of.

"I have been in Academy football for a while now and I believe this is the perfect place to take my first steps into senior football. I really enjoyed my time with Leicester City, I have learned a lot and now it is about putting that into practice.

"I trained with the club towards the end of last season, so I already know the girls and obviously it was great to watch them be so successful. you could see in training with the intensity that they believed they could do it and it was brilliant that they achieved promotion.

"I would describe myself as a box to box midfielder, I like to get forward, but I also recognise the defensive work that needs to be done. I am looking forward to getting started," Saunders said.
