Kevin Russell and Darren Ferguson

The club are delighted to welcome back Kevin Russell as First Team Coach ahead of the squad's return for pre-season training.

Manager Darren Ferguson has moved quickly to reinforce his backroom staff following the departure of Dale Tonge to Rotherham United with the appointment of Kevin Russell.

The pair worked together with tremendous success at the Weston Homes Stadium, helping steer Posh to back-to-back promotions in 2007/08 and 2008/09 before returning in 2011 to help Posh secure promotion at Old Trafford against Huddersfield Town.

Ferguson is delighted that Russell has agreed to return: "Once I was made aware that Rotherham United had approached the club for Dale Tonge, I knew that I had to work quickly in terms of his replacement and there is only one person that I spoke to and that was Kevin.

"I have had success with different coaches throughout my career, but there is no doubt that the most is with him alongside me. He gets this club, he understands how I work and play and that was really important.

"Kevin was with me when we had a really successful period, three promotions and was very popular. He has gone away and been working at clubs, developing young players at a higher level and with the average age of our squad, that will be key moving forward.

"I am delighted that he has agreed to join me and the club and am really looking forward to working with him again. He has a really good personality, the players will hopefully love working with him.  I am delighted to get it done so quickly. Kevin is pleased and looking forward to it."

We will catch up with Kevin Russell on Posh+ on the players return to pre-season late next week.
