Posh Women

Peterborough United Women take a break from their league programme on Sunday (2pm) as they face Cambridge United in the FAWNL Cup.

Peterborough United Women return to the city on Sunday afternoon when they take on the U’s at PIMS Park, looking to record a second victory over their opponents in a matter of months following the 2-1 win in pre-season.

Jess Rousseau and Edyn Osker both found the net in Cambridge, putting the seal on the win over our local rivals.

But Jake Poole’s side have work to do heading into the cup, having been beaten by Norwich City in match week one.

Our opponents will pose a strong challenge, making the short trip to Peterborough on the back of consecutive victories over Luton United and Dulwich Hamlet, respectively.

TEAM NEWS

Hayley James is nearing full fitness after missing the start of the season with a knee injury, but striker Tara Kirk remains sidelined through injury. Emily Meli is also expected to return to the Matchday squad. Midfielder Kayleigh Hines will miss out through suspension.

MANAGER QUOTES

"After defeat in the opening game of the group phase, we know what this fixture looks like in terms of the state of play, we know that we need to try and get the victory. We faced Cambridge in pre-season and also faced them last season and we know what they are about. I suspect both teams learned a little about each other in pre-season, we know the threats that they can pose. It is a local derby, hopefully there will be a decent crowd and we can try and continue our good start to the season," Jake Poole said.
