The Posh Women conceded in stoppage time as Loughborough Lightning claimed all three points at PIMS Park.
After a pulsating Northern Premier League game at PIMS Park, it was Loughborough Lightning who departed with all three points following a last-gasp winner that in truth, they probably didn't deserve.
Throughout the 90 minutes, the Peterborough United Women created the better opportunities in front of goal and in the second half dominated for long spells, but were undone cruelly at the death.
The good football from Jake Poole's side started early with Poppie Brown doing brilliantly in a tight area before spraying a delightful pass to the marauding Keir Perkins, with the skipper's cross just eluding Ellie May in the box.
Brown fired wide moments later from around 20-yards before the visitors scored against the run of play, as WEST fired low past Corry and into the bottom corner.
Rebecca Mears and May both had efforts with the latter's audacious chip landing on the roof of the net. Lauren Wilshaw fired wide of the target before MAY levelled the scores, reacting quickest in the second phase to power home an effort into the back of the net.
Brown fired over after good work from Wilshaw before Perkins fired over the top from an acute angle after charging into the penalty area.
On 50 minutes, Jenkins was penalised for a foul in the area and MUTCH coolly dispatched the spot-kick with aplomb. Wilshaw volleyed over after the goalkeeper dropped a cross from Mears.
May fired low into the side-netting from a tight angle before an improvised scooped finish from Wilshaw went over the top. The Lightning goalkeeper produced a fine stop to deny May with Perkins firing the rebound wide via a deflection.
On 76 minutes, Posh drew themselves level and it was no surprise that it was MAY with it, although this time the forward will admit to a bit of luck as her cross-shot sailed over the keeper and into the top corner.
Ganado fired over and Brown also went close before Posh were undone at the death as MUTCH fired home from an acute angle after Corry had initially done well to parry a low drive from distance.
Posh: Corry, Connor (sub Reynolds 54min), Jenkins, Pitt, Osker, Driscoll, Mears, Brown, Perkins (sub Ganado 72min), Wilshaw (sub Rai 80min), May. Unused subs: Saunders, Andersen.
