Action between Posh Women U23s and Derby County

Posh Women Under 23s suffer heavy loss to The Rams.

Peterborough United Women Under 23s three game unbeaten league run ended as they were beaten 5-0 by runaway league leaders Derby County Women Development on Sunday afternoon at the idverde Training Ground in their latest fixture of the FA Women’s National League Reserves Midlands Division.

The match started lively as The Rams pushed a breakthrough inside the opening 60 seconds as their forward flashed an effort wide of the post. Posh immediately reacted as Tilly Sands played a ball over Derby’s defence towards Ella-Mai Bale, she beat her defender but fired her effort straight at the goalkeeper. The league leaders had the ball in the back of the net in third minute, but the referee ruled it out for a handball in the build-up.

Just after the quarter hour mark, Rebecca Mears played a through ball to Frankie Pim in the box but her effort fell inches wide of the post. Derby took the lead in the 21st minute as a corner was volleyed in at the far post. Five minutes later, they looked to double their lead from another set piece but the attacker headed wide of the post.

Megan Dellar was forced into action as a cross was taken by the wind and looked set to fall in the net. The Rams extended their lead as the forward curled an effort into the top right corner. Dellar tipped the ball round the post on the stroke of half time as The Rams finished the first half strongly.

Posh started the second half strongly as Edyn Osker’s free-kick was on target but well handled by the goalkeeper. Dellar parried the ball away as Derby continued to create chances. They added a third goal after the hour mark as a long range effort snuck under the crossbar.

Posh went in search of a goal as Bale advanced forward, turned the defender but struck her effort wide of the post. Derby scored their fourth as another long range effort curled into the bottom left corner. A strong performance from Derby was polished off by a fifth goal with nine minutes to go as a through ball was met by the forward, who dribbled past Dellar and tapped into an empty net.
