Posh Women U23s overcame Thrapston Town to reach County Cup Semi-Finals
Peterborough United Women U23s secured a 2-1 win over Thrapston Town Ladies to reach the Northants County Cup semi-finals on Sunday afternoon at the idverde Training Ground.
Posh Women U23s were rewarded for a positive start to the game with Ellie Curson breaking the deadlock in the tenth minute. Thrapston equalised later in the first half. Curson regained Poshs’ lead in the 55th minute. The U23s withheld Thrapston’s pressure deep into injury time to secure their place in the final four.
Manager Michael Allsebrook spoke after the game, “I’m really proud of the players today. The conditions were tough with the wind but they grinded out the win this afternoon. Fair play to Thrapston who dug in and made the game difficult for us, but we looked comfortable and created some really good opportunities.”
“Following the loss to Wolves last time out, we asked for a reaction and for the girls to be better when in possession. To their credit, we were today but there are still improvements to be made. We know how talented this group are and this now sets us up for a very difficult challenge next week in the League Plate.”
“I’m delighted for Ellie (Curson) to score her two goals this afternoon. She was a class above in midfield and hopefully this sets her up for a really strong second half of the season. She has so much talent and it’s great to see her enjoying her football.”
