Peterborough United Women concluded their 2024/25 campaign with a 1-1 draw with Northampton Town Women at the Sixfields Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with Niamh Reynolds' first half strike cancelled out by Hannah Samuels goal shortly into the second half.
Posh carved the first chance of the game inside the opening minute as Meg Lawlor’s corner ball curled deep into the box but Evie Driscoll-King couldn’t connect at the far post. In the seventh minute, Reynolds fed Katie Middleton on the left but her low cross into the box was too far ahead of the on-rushing Tara Kirk.
Jake Poole’s side continued to threaten as a throw-in from Hayley James on 13 minutes found its way to Middleton inside the box who forced Katie McClean into a good save from close range.
A throw-in from James put pressure on the hosts minutes later as Keir Perkins struck on the half volley but saw her effort tipped over the crossbar by McClean.
Posh took the lead on 24 minutes, as Kirk used her strength to fend off the Northampton midfielder and played it into REYNOLDS who jinked her way into the box and found the bottom corner with her shot, hitting the left post before going over the line.
The hosts had their biggest chance of the game just after the half hour mark as Jade Bell burst into the box, and squared it to Laila Channell, but she blasted her shot over the crossbar.
On the stroke of half-time, Channell found Bell, but Corry rushed out of goal to claim the ball before the forward could strike.
The hosts searched for an equaliser shortly after the restart as SAMUELS curled a long-range effort into the top right corner past the diving Neive Corry.
Posh looked to regain the lead after the hour mark as Perkins broke forward on the left wing, she cut inside and struck straight at McClean before her follow up shot was cleared off the line by Ruby Heselden.
On 70 minutes, Northampton launched a counter-attack through Bell on the half-way line, her initial shot was blocked by Driscoll-King but she delivered a cross towards Jemima Footit in the box and her header was palmed away by Corry.
On 86 minutes, substitute Lauren Wilshaw sent a ball to the back post, but it flashed past Kirk and Bennett before they could connect.
Neither team could find a winner as both sides shared the points on the final match of the season. Posh conclude the Women’s FA Women’s National League Midlands Division season third in the table with a record 51 points.
