Driscoll Middleton celebrate

Posh Women overcome Royston Town Women on Wednesday evening.

Peterborough United Women secured back-to-back victories in pre-season with a 3-2 victory over Royston Town Women on Wednesday evening at Garden Walk, with Katie Middleton netting her second goal in two games for the club.

Posh broke the deadlock on two minutes as Katie Middleton advanced down the left-hand side and sent a cross into the box, which was headed home by a Royston Town defender to give Posh the lead. The hosts brought the scores level on six minutes as a low cross into the box was guided home by the forward into the top corner.

Middleton had a good opportunity on 11 minutes as she advanced into the box, but dragged an effort wide of the far-post. However, just seconds later, Posh retook the lead and Middleton was involved once again as her effort was saved by the feet of the goalkeeper and Driscoll slotted home on the rebound.

Posh added a third on 15 minutes and Middleton grabbed a well-deserved goal inside the opening stages of the game, receiving the ball on the edge of the box and fired home at the near-post. The Crows pulled a goal back on 28 minutes as an effort from the edge of the box went over Megan Dellar and into the back of the net.

Megan Lawlor’s corner fell to Keir Perkins on the edge the box, but the forward sent her effort well over the bar. Middleton then saw her effort from distance also flew over the bar as the referee blew his whistle for the break.

Dan Lawlor made a change at the break as Ellie York replaced Rosie Axten and Evie Driscoll-King went close to extending Posh’s advantage but she sent her effort wide after good work inside the box.

Just after the hour mark, Driscoll showed some excellent footwork to breeze past two defenders before her effort is straight at the goalkeeper. Tara Kirk, who was making her first appearance in pre-season, met a low cross by Perkins, but guided her effort wide of the post.

Posh XI: Dellar, Copson, Mugridge, Driscoll-King, Lawlor, Evans (Trialist, 62min), O’Neill (Dean, 62min), Axten (York, 46min), Perkins, Driscoll, Middleton (Dean, 62min).
