Rosie Axten signing

Posh Women complete the signing of Axten.

Peterborough United Women are delighted to announce the transfer of midfielder Rosie Axten from Stoke City, bolstering Dan Lawlor’s squad for the rest of the 2022/23 season.

Axten started her career at Leicester City Women, where she played alongside Tara Kirk, and has since gone on to feature for Nottingham Forest and Derby County before signing for Stoke City last summer.

The midfielder, who has made 19 appearances for The Potters in the FA Women’s National League Premier Division North, is delighted to have joined the club and hopes the new challenge can re-spark her enjoyment in football again.

“I’m really excited to have joined the club,” Axten said. “I just wanted to start enjoying my football again and showing what I can do. The set-up at this club seems brilliant and I know Tara from my time at Leicester City, which is good to see a familiar face.

“To play your best football, I feel you have to be enjoying it and at this level, I hope I can prove what I can do. The club’s ambition is still to get promoted this season and that still is very much possible, but if we don’t, I want to help achieve their goals next season.

“I can play as a wing-back or a winger and comfortable on either side, getting up and down the wing. Obviously, I enjoy attacking and putting crosses into the box, but I also like defending and helping the team as much as possible. I think I can bring a lot to the team and now looking forward to finishing the season strongly and achieving a top-four finish.”

Posh Women manager Dan Lawlor said: “This is a huge signing for us. Rosie is an attacking player who will pose a huge threat to a lot of defenders in this league. We found out that Rosie wasn’t enjoying her football at tier three despite starting every week. She wants to get her head down and work hard in a professional environment and find the love for the game, once again.

“As soon as we spoke, she knew that we’re a club that are moving in the right direction, we are full of individuals who are driving high standards and we’re very happy that she chose us. The fact we can get players like her interested shows we are moving in the right direction on the pitch.”

Axten will be involved in Sunday’s trip to ARMCO Arena as Posh Women face Solihull Moors Women in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.
