Peterborough United Women marked their return to the city with success, as five different scorers were on the mark in an 8-0 win at PIMS Park.
Anna Pitt and Jess Rousseau both registered a brace, their first goals for the club in competitive action, matched by Lauren Wilshaw, who completed her double – and sent Jake Poole’s side into the break six up.
Kayleigh Hines was also on the scoresheet, alongside another home debutant - Freya Andersen - who closed out the show to maintain the perfect start to the league programme.
In truth, the contest was lopsided in Posh's favour, and it started with PITT who connected with Wilshaw’s delivery to give her side the dream start inside three minutes.
The visitors had no time to settle before it was two. This time, the ball landed freely to ROUSSEAU, who picked out the bottom corner with ease.
Hines then set her sights on goal from around 25 yards, with Chloe Gray doing well to move across goal and tip her curling effort onto the bar and over.
But the midfielder was rewarded for her efforts on 19 minutes, after the ball was played out to HINES in a similar manner to her earlier effort, in turn finding the top corner expertly with her left-foot.
Posh continued to work the ball into the pockets, which freed up space for Poppie Brown to try her luck, having two picks at the lock, but both were well stopped by United’s keeper.
Wilshaw cut inside, going for the bottom corner, but her strike was routine for Gray. WILSHAW had the better of the Whites’ keeper moments later though, finishing into the same corner to take the game out of the visitors’ hands.
Poole’s side continued to reach a high ceiling, with WILSHAW adding her second directly from a corner kick.
United went under siege once more in the first half, as ROUSSEAU doubled her afternoon’s tally with an instinctive finish into the bottom corner.
Posh kept the momentum going after the break, as Evie Driscoll-King found herself in a forward position, firing low at the Whites’ keeper, who did well to push away the danger.
Poole shuffled his options, turning to the bench where Andersen made an immediate impact, earning her side a chance to add a seventh from the spot – but, the forward struck the woodwork from 12 yards.
Rebecca Mears’ strike was tipped over from the edge of the penalty area, before PITT applied the finishing touch to record her brace after a scramble inside the box.
Keir Perkins then squared the ball to ANDERSEN two minutes later, who finished into the bottom corner to secure our second consecutive win of the campaign. Perkins saw a goal ruled out for offside and there were plenty of other opportunities for Posh, who were a tad wasteful in good areas as they tried to add to their tally.
