Posh made it 14 unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Midlands to go top with an assured 3-0 victory over Northampton Town.
Peterborough United Women completed the league double over Northampton Town to go top with a professional performance at PIMS Park.
Kira Rai, Keir Perkins and Jess Rousseau all grabbed a goal each as we moved clear of Boldmere St Michaels, who dropped to second place.
Perkins found good space out wide in the early minutes and created the first opening for Poppie Brown, whose low shot was matched by Katie McClean.
In a game that ebbed and flowed, the visitors looked to have the next say when Alyx Mills had the ball in the net from a set-piece, but play was pulled back for an offside deemed on a claret shirt.
Niamh Reynolds then picked up the ball in a forward position, but her effort was bent around the post.
Posh continued to probe, and two quick goals saw any momentum in favour of the visitors killed. RAI connected well with a cross and looped her header over Mclean to make it 1-0, before Brown slipped in PERKINS, who made it two in a matter of minutes with a clinical finish.
Jake Poole’s side continued how they left off after the break, as Hayley James’ shot was tipped over by McLean, who did well to get up high to keep the score at two. Niamh Connor’s header then went high from the resulting corner.
Reynolds looked to continue the early inroads, but her shot on the turn went high and wide. Meg Lawlor then had the next attempt on goal, but her effort was nothing to trouble the Northampton keeper.
ROUSSEAU soon made it three after Perkins found an extra yard down the right and played our number seven, whose shot was deflected into the bottom corner.
There can be no question about Posh’s application, who were in control from minute one, truthfully, and Connor was next to have a go when her header just missed the target.
Courtney Clarke and Edyn Osker each had efforts late on, which fell to nothing. Posh are next in action at home on Sunday, 8th March, when they entertain Worcester City at the Weston Homes Stadium on International Women’s Day.
